HELP/Advice Greatly Needed for TV Pilot

    Hello everyone...

I have some questions that only fellow colleagues can answer... I am working on a show meant for either the travel channel or food network which is quite unique and has yet to be done. I also have a celebrity attached to the show and signed on if it is ever picked up.

My main question is, when shooting a show like this, what is the correct order in going about it... should I shoot a pilot, then submit that along with the proper business plans/paperwork, etc to the channels? Or do I submit the idea to the channel first? Also, both of those networks state that they only ever work with production companies that have had shows already widely distributed... but I've found that a few of the production companies who have shot for them were shooting their first ever shows... so how does that work? I know this is probably rather vague and naive but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi there,

I am new to the Production Forum and also a managing director of a new Company "Oh So Small Productions Ltd". I believe the correct way to go about pitching your show is to first pitch the idea. If they like it they will then ask for further information. Saying this, we went ahead with our first pre-school childrens show and co-produced a tv pilot with another production team. We had the pilot edited and put a clip of it onto Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrq3reWD14w). When we contacted the TV networks, pitching our idea, we included a the link to the clip. So far we have had two networks interested in receiving a dvd of the full pilot and more information, we had to fill out indepth proposals forms. Now, its just a waiting game

I hope this helps somewhat ?

    Good Luck
    Managing Director
